This programme is designed in alignment with best practices from leading IB World Schools and international summer programmes worldwide, including ISSOS, British Council Summer Schools, HKIS, TIS Tokyo, Seisen International School, and UWCSEA Singapore.
EIFJ Holiday Schools are built on a belief shared by the world's leading international programmes: that the weeks outside the school year are not a gap to be managed but an opportunity for a different and deeper kind of learning. Children at EIFJ think, investigate, create, perform, and reflect alongside peers from across the world, guided by teachers who facilitate rather than instruct.
The programme is developed by our teaching team, composed of licensed teachers (French Ministry of Education or other frameworks), including IB-certified educators, and is overseen by the Pedagogical Leadership Team. Every element of the day is connected to the week's Big Idea. Core learning in literacy, mathematics, science, and language is woven into eight adventure themes, each anchored in an IB transdisciplinary theme. At the end of the holiday school, every student walks away with a Holiday School Portfolio that is entirely their own.
THE EXPERIENCE
Every day at EIFJ includes genuine play, rest, movement, and structured learning together. Three embedded WonderSkills Power Sessions, a one-hour community lunch, and two outdoor breaks share the same timetable because the evidence from top international programmes is clear: rest and student agency are conditions for learning, not interruptions to it. Instruction ends at 15:30 for all groups, followed by a community snack, structured extracurricular activities, and family pick-up from 16:30. Extended care is available before 8:30 and until 20:00 upon demand and based on staffing availability.
THE EIFJ DIFFERENCE
WonderSkills Reading
Five levels from Starter to Master cover ages 3 to 15. Three Power Sessions per day build vocabulary, comprehension, and critical thinking through each week’s inquiry theme.
Trilingual Immersion
English daily. French daily. Japanese twice weekly. Families choose their immersion language per session or commit to full-programme immersion. Language at EIFJ is lived, not taught.
Student-Chosen Afternoons
CREATE, MOVE, BUILD, PERFORM, DISCOVER, DEEP DIVE. Every afternoon, students direct their own learning within the week’s theme. Specialists facilitate. Students lead.
WEEKLY EDUCATIONAL TRIP FRAMEWORK
Every week includes one educational trip per age group (Kindergarten or Elementary/Middle School), either for a full day or a half day depending on the destination and travel time, with transportation arranged by school bus and/or train. Full-day trips depart after the Morning Spark and immersion block. Half-day trips depart after lunch and return by 15:00. The destination is communicated to families at the start of each week, together with the theme expectations and student tasks for each trip, outlining what students are expected to observe, document, and bring back in connection with the week’s big idea.
SUMMER WATER PLAYS
On water play days in the Summer Holiday School, which occur twice per week on the same fixed days for all groups (Tuesdays and Fridays), the morning break is replaced by a dedicated 60-minute water play block supervised by staff. The afternoon outdoor break is retained for Kindergarten on all swim days.
YOUR CHILD'S STORY
Not a scrapbook. A genuine record of learning, chosen by the student, annotated by the student, and presented by the student at the end of their enrollment.
Every student builds a Holiday School Portfolio across the holiday school. Each week contributes one anchor piece connected to the Big Idea, plus any additional work the student chooses to include. At the end of the specific enrollment period, students select their three most meaningful pieces, write a reflection on each, and present the full portfolio to their families. No grades, no marks, and no rankings appear anywhere. Families receive a minimum of two Seesaw posts per student per week with photos, student voice recordings, and key moments from each day.

SCHOOL HOLIDAY PROGRAMS FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS
During school holidays (Toussaint, Christmas, Winter, Easter, and Summer), EIFJ Middle School welcomes students from EIFJ or other schools in 7th, 8th, and 9th grade (ages 12 to 15), for a fee of 1,100 yens per day. EIFJ provides a calm, studious, and comfortable environment, offering access to computers, the library, the gym, the cafeteria, educational games, and more. While students enjoy autonomy, they remain under the supervision of EIFJ educational assistants at all times., including during possible field trips.
Independent study and revision are encouraged, and students may bring their own school materials. Depending on student needs and staff availability, academic support may also be offered in various subjects such as mathematics, languages, science, and history-geography.
The program is designed as a flexible, social, and enriching space where students can study, relax, play, and engage in sports and water activities in a safe and welcoming atmosphere, without a structured curriculum. It is an ideal opportunity for friends to meet, collaborate, and learn together in a dynamic and supportive setting.
