During French school holidays (Winter, Easter, Summer, Toussaint, and Christmas) and Japanese holidays (end of March, Golden Week, Summer, and New Year), the French-Japanese International School (EIFJ) offers its renowned holiday school programs. These sessions provide children aged 3 to 12 a unique opportunity to enjoy their vacations in a safe, nurturing, and inspiring educational environment located in Tokyo’s Kita-ku. Children are welcomed and supervised by our certified school teachers (many of whom also teach during the holidays), French language specialists, ESL-qualified English teachers, Japanese certified educators, as well as assistants and teachers in training. For children under the age of 3, please refer to our short-term nursery childcare program, available throughout the year. For students in middle school, a separate program is available—please consult the section below for details.
Curriculum and Activities
The detailed program is finalized shortly before each holiday session, and features a wide range of engaging and educational activities, including:
- Language enrichment (French, English, Japanese)
- Science and general knowledge workshops
- Storytelling and mythology
- Nature walks and park discovery
- Treasure hunts
- Music initiation and choir
- Physical education, dance, and sports
- Cooking and gardening
- Art and creative projects
- Intergenerational visits and community support activities
Beyond academic and creative enrichment, the holiday school offers children a precious opportunity to develop social skills, autonomy, and emotional intelligence, as they engage with peers beyond their regular school or family circle. This program also serves as an ideal gateway to preschool, kindergarten, or elementary education at EIFJ, helping children transition smoothly into school life. Finally, the holiday school is a chance to explore extracurricular activities—including music, science, and sports—which are often offered both during and outside school terms.
- The class begins at 8:30 a.m. with a circle time.
- Each day: two workshops to strengthen fundamental knowledge, learning and discoveries; two recreations including a swimming pool recreation in summer and in the Fall, initiations, pactical works that students can bring back home, quiet time.
- Each week, three trips to the nearby parks, including those with pools in summer.
- French as a Foreign Language (FLE) workshops included and offered several times a week by qualified teachers, or teachers in training.
- Each holiday school: whenever possible, a school bus trip (to the zoo, to the museum, to a park or historic site, to the aquarium, etc.), a civic day, a traditional festival (French, Japanese and/or international). Birthdays are celebrated individually, just like all year round.
Photos and sometimes videos of your child's workshops and school trips are uploaded every day via the Seesaw application, which also allows you to communicate at any time with teachers and administration. A weekly newsletter explaining in detail the content of everyday’s activity is posted online for families.
