For French-Japanese families

EIFJ is a particularly relevant choice for French-Japanese families. Thanks to its truly trilingual approach (French, English, Japanese), the school effectively strengthens students’ proficiency in French and English, especially for children who are typically more exposed to Japanese from an early age. These two closely linked and complementary languages are acquired in an immersive and structured environment—ideal for building solid bilingualism. Academic excellence is ensured through the articulation of the rigorous curriculum of the French Ministry of National Education and the inquiry- and reflection-based learning framework of the International Baccalaureate (IB). The IB, which has become the fastest-growing international educational framework in Japan and the world in recent years, offers privileged access to a wide network of international high schools, Japanese schools (increasingly offering IB programs), and bilingual French schools abroad—without necessarily needing to return to France. This opens pathways to university studies in Japan, France, or elsewhere. The school also ensures important cultural continuity by offering in-depth instruction in Japanese language and culture (history-geography, civics) and by integrating traditional Japanese events into school life. EIFJ’s dynamic French-Japanese environment fosters a strong sense of belonging and community, which is essential for the identity development of binational students. Lastly, Japanese government scholarships and EIFJ’s CAP program—which guarantees predictable tuition fees throughout a student’s schooling—make this high-quality education more accessible to many binational families seeking to combine academic ambition, financial stability, and long-term life plans in Japan.

For French families

For French families, choosing EIFJ means opting for the continuity and excellence of French education while offering their children a unique and enriching international experience in Tokyo. The school rigorously follows the official curriculum of the French Ministry of National Education, greatly facilitating future transitions, whether returning to France or continuing studies in another school in the French or IB networks abroad. The educational environment is exceptional in its diversity, being trilingual (French, English, Japanese) and bringing together students from 18 nationalities and staff from 11 different countries. Teaching quality is guaranteed by educators trained in the French national curriculum, complemented by the stimulating IB approach that encourages inquiry and critical thinking. Located in Tokyo, the school offers valuable exposure to Japanese culture while maintaining strong ties to France and immersing students in a vibrant international setting. EIFJ thus combines the strength of the French educational system with the invaluable benefits of a truly international education.

For international and Japanese families

EIFJ is a truly international school and an ideal choice for non-French-speaking families—whether Japanese or from other global backgrounds—seeking a multilingual, multicultural, and academically rigorous education in Tokyo. Our school community reflects this diversity, with 18 nationalities among students and 11 among staff. The school's pedagogical structure is based on the well-established curriculum of the French Ministry of National Education and the global framework of the International Baccalaureate (IB). This combination enables students to develop a strong international profile. After middle school at EIFJ, they naturally progress to reputable international or Japanese high schools (especially those offering the IB) and are well prepared to access top universities around the world. Students already proficient in English can further enhance their skills, while others gradually master English and/or French. At the same time, students strengthen their Japanese or begin learning the local language if new to it. EIFJ serves as an effective bridge to ambitious higher education—both in Japan and globally—by providing students with the linguistic, academic, and intercultural tools needed to thrive in a globalized world, where the IB is a powerful asset.

For French-international mixed families

EIFJ is a perfect fit for French-international mixed families, offering an ideal balance between reinforcing French language and culture and integrating students into a stimulating and internationally recognized educational environment: the International Baccalaureate (IB). The school fully values the diverse educational and cultural backgrounds of each child. Students grow in a bilingual French-English environment with easy access to Japanese, where the time-tested teaching methods of the French system blend seamlessly with the inquiry- and research-based learning encouraged by the IB. This unique combination prepares students for a wide range of academic opportunities after middle school at EIFJ—including French high schools in Japan or abroad, schools in the IB network, or Japanese high schools. EIFJ offers a rich, flexible, and globally recognized academic trajectory, allowing students to thrive fully in their dual cultural identity.

Specific information for the academic pathway of Japanese or Japanese-mixed students

Transfers from EIFJ Tokyo to Japanese elementary schools, junior high schools, and high schools are possible for families who wish to pursue this route. Dual enrollment in both a Japanese schools and EIFJ Tokyo is recommended for Japanese or binational students in order to comply with Japanese education law. This is facilitated through close, ongoing communication between the Japanese school and EIFJ. The IB Primary Years Programme allows Japanese students who have studied at EIFJ Tokyo and other IB schools to be eligible for admission to Japanese or international universities of their choice.
