Mission Laïque Française (MLF), non-profit organization promoting French education abroad

École Internationale Franco-Japonaise (EIFJ) is a member of the mlfmonde network of French schools through a partnership agreement signed with the Mission laïque française (MLF) in July 2025. This partnership aims to promote the French language and culture through secular, multilingual, and intercultural education, in line with the guidelines of the French Ministry of National Education. The shared goal is to obtain or maintain the school’s official accreditation, while ensuring educational quality, participatory governance, and international openness.

This partnership is supported by the following framework agreements signed between the MLF and the French State:

- Framework agreement with the Ministry of National Education, Higher Education and Research (30/06/2015);

- Framework agreement with the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs (03/02/2023);

- Framework agreement with the Agency for French Education Abroad (AEFE) (30/12/2021).

The MLF provides structured support to EIFJ in key areas including accreditation, institutional recognition, access to the global mlfmonde network, recruitment platform, educational resources, preparation for French exams, professional development, and partnership facilitation.

Both parties commit to complying with accreditation requirements, representing the school before French authorities, and implementing a participatory governance model. The school welcomes students of all backgrounds, prepares them for both French and national examinations, and operates in alignment with the MLF charter and applicable French and local regulations.

Higher Education & Language Education:

A Major New Step for EIFJ Tokyo with Université Paris Cité

To broaden its students’ academic horizons and promote educational expertise in Japan, École Internationale Franco-Japonaise formalized a framework partnership agreement with Université Paris Cité (UPCité) on May 22, 2026, through its UFR of Linguistics, headed by Mr. Guillaume Fon Sing.

Centered on the professional Master’s program LAO-IFLE (East Asian Languages and French as a Foreign Language Engineering), this partnership focuses on several innovative areas:

  • Modern educational tools: joint development of interactive learning resources and e-learning solutions adapted to multilingual contexts.
  • Practical training: welcoming and mentoring future education professionals within EIFJ classrooms.
  • Pedagogical exchange: ongoing sharing of teaching methods and expertise between university academics and EIFJ educators.

A strategic pathway to French universities for our high school students:

  • Encouraging university pathways: direct encouragement and support for students interested in Bachelor’s degrees and selective programs at Université Paris Cité.
  • Building academic independence: concrete exposure to the methodological expectations of French higher education from the high school years onward.
  • International mobility: creating concrete pathways between Tokyo and Paris to support ambitious higher education projects.
  • Educational network: highlighting the university programs offered by Université Paris Cité to families and the wider EIFJ community in Japan.

EIFJ Tokyo expresses its sincere appreciation to the teams at Université Paris Cité for this long-term cooperation, which enriches our educational approach and opens meaningful academic opportunities for our future graduates.

Club France Initiative

Putting the community of French people living abroad at the heart of France's international influence strategy

Member of the Club France Initiative, EIFJ Tokyo shares a goal and a conviction. The objective is to participate in the emergence of a new dynamic in order to make France more influential internationally. The conviction is that our compatriots around the world have a lot to contribute to France. Because the 3 million French people in our communities around the world have detailed and lasting knowledge of the countries where they live; they are essential to help France succeeds in globalization.

Committed to gather vital forces everywhere abroad is the raison d'être of the Club France Initiative created in 2019 by Anne GENETET, Member of the Parliament representing the French people living in Japan and Asia, and Christian KOENIG, former professor and director of international affairs at ESSEC, with among other active members Jean-Maurice RIPERT, former French Ambassador. The aim of the Club France Initiative is to connect French people living abroad who every day, often on the fringes of traditional networks, contribute to the influence of France, in order to enlighten public and private decision-makers on the innovative ways and means of strengthening French influence in Europe and around the world. It is the community of all those who want to unite their thoughts and actions so that France is stronger on the international scene.

EIFJ Tokyo brings to life this ambition of making French people abroad the protagonists of French influence around the world.

The Francophone Fencing Alliance

(Alliance Francophone d'Escrime, AFE)

The Alliance Francophone d’Escrime (AFE) is an international organization officially launched in 2022, bringing together around twenty national federations as well as one French international school, EIFJ Tokyo. Its clear objective is to actively develop the practice of fencing across the Francophone world through shared, pragmatic, and collaborative projects.

The AFE seeks to unite the voices of the Francophone fencing community to promote common values, in particular democracy as a fundamental principle, as well as international cooperation and knowledge sharing. It supports the presence of Francophone actors in major institutions and competitions (such as the Jeux de la Francophonie and other international events), encourages applications to international positions, and fosters partnerships between countries and exchanges across continents.

With a strong development focus, the Alliance supports concrete initiatives such as school fencing, access to fencing for all, coach training, and the creation of local structures, while facilitating the sharing of expertise and experience among its members. It also promotes innovation and the expansion of practices, with the aim of increasing the number of fencers worldwide.

The AFE also works to strengthen the role of the French language in fencing, particularly in official regulations and technical resources, while highlighting its historical importance in the sport. Finally, it supports an international sporting dynamic through the organization of training camps, exchanges, and competitions, as well as the sharing of technical, scientific, and medical expertise among its members
